A world obstinately closed. But, alas, you can open it; but to do so you must cup it in a dishcloth, use a chipped, somewhat blunt knife, and it usually takes several attempts. Inquisitive fingers cut themselves, nails break: it\u2019s rough work. The jabs that you deliver mark its casing with white circles, like halos. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the inside you\u2019ll find contained a whole world, for drinking and eating; under a firmament (strictly speaking) of mother-of-pearl, the upper skies melt into the lower ones, forming nothing more than a pool &#8211; a slimy greenish sac, which sloshes to and fro, fringed with a blackish lace around the edges. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And sometimes, as payment for your endurance, in the belly of the patient wisdom of the oyster, you\u2019ll discover the pearl you were destined to have all along. <\/span><\/td>\n<td><b>L&#8217;hu\u00eetre<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0L&#8217;hu\u00eetre, de la grosseur d&#8217;un galet moyen, est d&#8217;une apparence plus rugueuse, d&#8217;une couleur moins unie, brillamment blanch\u00e2tre. C&#8217;est un monde opini\u00e2trement clos. Pourtant on peut l&#8217;ouvrir : il faut alors la tenir au creux d&#8217;un torchon, se servir d&#8217;un couteau \u00e9br\u00e9ch\u00e9 et peu franc, s&#8217;y reprendre \u00e0 plusieurs fois. Les doigts curieux s&#8217;y coupent, s&#8217;y cassent les ongles : c&#8217;est un travail grossier. Les coups qu&#8217;on lui porte marquent son enveloppe de ronds blancs, d&#8217;une sorte de halos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A l&#8217;int\u00e9rieur l&#8217;on trouve tout un monde, \u00e0 boire et \u00e0 manger : sous un firmament (\u00e0 proprement parler) de nacre, les cieux d&#8217;en dessus s&#8217;affaissent sur les cieux d&#8217;en dessous, pour ne plus former qu&#8217;une mare, un sachet visqueux et verd\u00e2tre, qui flue et reflue \u00e0 l&#8217;odeur et \u00e0 la vue, frang\u00e9 d&#8217;une dentelle noir\u00e2tre sur les bords.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Parfois tr\u00e8s rare une formule perle \u00e0 leur gosier de nacre, d&#8217;o\u00f9 l&#8217;on trouve aussit\u00f4t \u00e0 s&#8217;orner. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The Oyster The oyster: the shape of any average old rock, rugged, of patchy color, brilliantly pallid.
